Christmas Angels Make this Christmas a season of giving by adopting an Angel from our Angel Tree located at the Westover Branch. Our tree is decorated with Angels, all from local families in need and carefully selected through the Salvation Army. And without our help, these children may not receive a Christmas gift at all this year. So please take a minute, stop by the Westover branch and pick your Angel….it is so easy and makes all the difference. But hurry, the deadline is December 14th! Heather Argenbright earns the Edward J. "Ed" Langton Scholarship Heather Argenbright was awarded the 2010 Edward J. "Ed" Langton Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship will help her pursue a degree in Nursing at William Carey University and ultimately a career as a medical missionary assisting people in need in third world countries. The scholarship began in 2004 by the employees of Grand Bank in honor of their CEO, Ed Langton. Each year the employees contribute toward building the fund as a Christmas gift. In 2009 the employees established a Donor-Advised Fund with the Greater Pine Belt Community Foundation as an easier way to manage the donations and enable them to be tax-deductible. The Donor Advised Fund is an endowment that will leave a legacy in perpetuity. A committee of Grand Bank employees selected Heather based on applications solicited from local schools, youth organizations and the bank's website. "Our goal is to find a student that mirrors the same character and strong beliefs as Mr. Langton," says Rob Guyse, Scholarship Chair. "So, we considered not only grade point average but community involvement, determination to excel and financial need. Because of Heather's passion in helping others and goals to continue her mission work, the committee agreed she is the ideal choice." Posted April 2010 |
